How we built a Company-Wide knowledge layer with Claude Skills
Hedgineer built a knowledge distribution system using Claude Skills that automatically applies institutional expertise without requiring users to invoke specific commands.
The Problem
Organizations lose critical expertise when senior staff become unavailable or depart. Documentation becomes outdated and knowledge remains siloed across individuals.
The Solution
Hedgineer organizes institutional expertise into four interconnected knowledge domains:
- AI: Agent patterns and prompt engineering
- Data: ETL architectures and query optimization
- Infrastructure: Azure configurations and deployment patterns
- UI: Component libraries and design consistency
Key Insight
Skills are model-invoked, not user-invoked. Claude autonomously determines when expertise applies, eliminating the need for engineers to know which resources exist.
This enables "expertise traveling" across organizational silos. Frontend developers access data pipeline patterns from other teams, while infrastructure engineers inherit error-handling discoveries from production incidents.
Implementation
Domain teams encode patterns into markdown Skills through an internal marketplace system. Continuous feedback loops maintain accuracy based on real-world application performance.
